Alan Wake Delayed Until At Least 2008

by Erin on July 23rd, 2007

See it’s this kind of thing that pisses me off about the gaming industry hype machine. Alan Wake was/is/might-be-if-it’s-ever-released a wicked psychological thriller of a game that sees you explore an expansive, openly explorable world as the game’s horror writer protagonist. It’s supposed to be supremely graphically complex, visceral, and downright chilling. It’s also been crammed down the throat of loyal Xbox 360 fans since the launch of the console.

At last count, the bloody thing was due to be released November 1st, 2007, but word on the street at E3 (confirmed by Microsoft’s Shane Kim) is that it’s been delayed into 2008. Why? Well here:

The great thing about Alan Wake is that people responded really well to Alan Wake. We want to nurture that. It’s not a 2007 title, which is why we’re not showing it here. And we don’t need to show it behind closed doors now. Enough said there.

The first sentence reminds me of someone talking in horrible third person. Gah.

Anyway, I suppose I’m just getting frustrated, not with the number of delays, because I appreciate the amount of care that some developers are putting into their product, but the amount of horse sh*t I have to swallow about the games in the years leading up to their release. I’m sorry devs, but screenshots are going to keep me interested, and a new, to minute “expanded” trailer might be good for a single viewing, but after that…not so much. Put up, or for the love of all things holy, shut up.

I had forgotten all about Alan Wake, I was super interested in it for a long while but man, 2008? With all the movies I watch I’m not sure if my xbox will last that long!
