And Cast Frost Shock!
Every once in a while a particularly clever piece of machinima crosses my desk and either leaves me in awe that people have that much time on their hands, or leaves me in a fit of laughter. This one is a bit of both.
Essentially, it’s a very well done WoW parody of the PC to Mac “switcher” ads, and the current updated versions that have a cool Apple dude and a dorky PC man squaring off over features. The ’switcher’ ad have been gracing televisions everywhere since 2002 and not-so-subtly poking fun at the powers that be in the PC world. If you haven’t seen these snarky little gems yet, head over to the Get A Mac section of the Apple page and enjoy.
The WoW version (produced by CraftingWorlds.com) isn’t an exact copy mind you, as it’s not done point/counterpoint style like the new Mac ads, but the character in question, a disgruntled paladin who wants to be recognized as a powerful warrior and not just “some healing bitch”, weighs the pros and cons of his class before re-rolling as a troll shaman.
Tristan Pope, the man in the director’s chair, has actually done a series of ‘Switcher’ ads using WoW avatars, including a hilarious look at the Atkins diet. As the human mage comments “when someone confused me for a Tauren at a costume party, I knew it was time for a switch”. I’ll let you guess what the resulting switch was.
