Arcade Machines: Helping You Catch Crooks

So, say you’re tracking down a video arcade thief … what better way to catch him than to put a hidden camera inside an arcade machine? (That might be a rhetorical question, but you’re free to answer if you so desire). Anyway, in Boca Raton, the police managed to catch a crook by doing just that (putting the camera in the arcade machine, not answering my rhetorical questions). The only problem is, they don’t know who the guy is.
According to The Palm Beach Post (I like to keep up-to-date so I know where to retire to):
Surveillance video from the most recent theft, which began at 7:48 p.m. Thursday, shows the man in the arcade room at Embassy Suites removing what appears to be a crow bar and screwdriver from the waistband of his pants. During the next 15 minutes, he pries open the coin compartments to four video games and stashes the change in a plastic bag from an empty garbage pail.
The video also shows the man nervously checking a nearby hallway, and pretending to play one of the video games when two women walk by.
“He’s brazen,” Horowitz said. “He’s going to keep coming back until we stop him.”
The thefts might be connected to a rash of thefts from soda machines over the weekend in schools and gated communities west of Boca Raton, detectives said.
Nearly five hours after Thursday’s theft at Embassy Suites, two men pried open a Coca-Cola machine in the Boca Landings community center west of Boca Raton and stole about $150 in coins, said Palm Beach County sheriff’s Detective Sean Bozdech.
“They could all be working together,” Bozdech said.
Meanwhile, vending machines and arcade games all across Boca Raton continue to be harrassed and violated. They should just install pepper spray as a defense mechanism.
They can call it Dr. Pepper Spray.
