Blu-Ray Xbox 360 Rumor Once Again Denied

by Ingrid on July 6th, 2008

We’ve talked quite a bit about the Xbox 360 Blu-ray rumor, going as far as saying that a Blu-ray drive would be coming soon. While everything keeps pointing to the fact that Microsoft has a Blu-ray drive in the works, the company keeps insisting that they don’t.

Most recently, Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division President Robbie Bach stated that the Blu-ray rumor was “so far out there” that we may as well be dreaming.

“If you look at the Blu-ray player market, you haven’t seen the acceleration everybody expected (since the demise of HD DVD). It’s not as much about whether all the content is in a Blu-ray format or a HD DVD format. You have to look at how fundamentally compelling the difference is between a progressive scan DVD player and the picture that it can produce and what you get on a high-definition player. The reality is there is some difference, but most people look at it and say, ‘I am not going to pay extra for that.’

There is nothing to even talk about [Blu-ray Xbox 360 plans] right now with regard to the next generation. That is so far out that there isn’t anything to talk about.”

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if Microsoft is simply trying to keep a tight lid on the project or if the Blu-ray rumor has simply taken a life of its own.

Well, whether xbox 360 will have a blu-ray or not, i think it will be more of a question of usability and how it will affect the current xbox 360 setup. isn’t it?

The 360 doesn’t need blu-ray they’re already ahead of the PS3 in sales.

Microsoft really needs to jump on the Blu-ray wagon . . . if not, the PS3 will slowly catch up and surpass it.
