Chinese Parents Sue Blizzard and World of Warcraft

Chinese parents are blaming Blizzard for making World of Warcraft ‘too addictive’ and leading to their son’s suicide a year ago. They are convinced that it was WoW and their child’s addiction to the game that led him to take his own life.
What do they plan to do about it?
Sue Blizzard Entertainment and blame the developers for the child’s death.
Is it me, or is this ridiculous? WoW is addictive, sure. Lots of games are. But blaming developers because your child killed himself over a video game is stupid. It’s not Blizzard’s fault parents aren’t putting time regulations on their kids play time, or being more aware of what their kids are doing.
Besides, do they even know the kid killed himself over WoW? If WoW was even a factor, do they know for a fact it was the only factor? Even if it were, I don’t see how Blizzard Developers can be blamed for doing their job. It’s not like they put subliminal messages in the game that say, “Oh noes, you suck at this, go kill yourself.”
Perhaps I am being insensitive. But, to me, suing over a child’s life is preposterous and counterproductive. If the issue is that children are investing too much of themselves into video games, then get the kids away from the damn games, don’t go trying to make money off the people who make the games. What is that gonna do? Are developers suddenly going to make their games LESS interesting, and LESS compelling and LESS “addictive”?
It makes no sense.

Agreed. Far be it that the parent’s actually take some responsiblity and regulate their child’s playing time. God forbid, that be the SENSIBLE thing to do.

Well said Matt.
It seems to be the norm these days that people refuse to take responsibilty for their own actions.

And if you look at it, wouldn’t there be.. if we take 1% of the european comunity, which is 1 000 000 players at the moment, there’d be 10 000 suicide victims as a cause of WoW… Doesn’t quite ring a bell that I’ve heard about that.. *shrugs*

Well, I’d have to say that it is becoming the norm in the world to blame anyone but yourself for you and your families’ problems. I’m too fat…. damn that McDonalds…. I have lung disease, damn that Marlboro….. I need a new liver, damn that Budweiser! It’s time sensible people around the world stand up and say…. enough is enough, we’re not going to reward irresponsibility any longer!
Yeah, like that’ll ever happen.
