Clean Up The Gaming Clutter
Interesting, if obvious de-cluttering solutions for gamers over at Unclutterer. I think we all suffer from gaming related messes at one time or another, from bulky SNES cartridges strewn all over the floor to the tangled web of wires that friends and family have to navigate to get to the couch.
On some points, it’s quite clear that the author, as he readily admits, isn’t a gamer. Telling us gadgetry obsessed folks to try to limit ourselves to only one console, is like trying to tell a kid to only have one freshly-baked delicious cookie. Heck, I own three consoles produced before this year’s crop of university kids alone.
But that being said, other things in the article are reasonable, common sense responses to aggregating levels of electronic clutter. Go wireless, go GameFly (or a similar service), and create, with your nerdy genius, a storage system that suits your gaming needs.
If you live with people, they’ll appreciate the effort to make the place look less like corded labyrinth and more like a living space. If you live alone, think of it as less emergency clean up for that unexpected visit from mom, your significant other, or the landlord.
Some additional things that I can think of that aren’t in the article are:
-
Cord organization. If you’re still wired, have a little class about it. There’s a huge variety of cord securing paraphenalia out there that can cut down on the amount of tangling.
-
Novelty. Come up with new and interesting ways to conceal or alternatively display your addiction. By making things more integrated into your living space, they look less like clutter, and more like home.
-
Prioritize. Not everything has to be plugged in at all times. Tuck the consoles and accessories that you use less frequently away, and keep the ones that you play the most within easy reach.
