Commodore Re-Enters The Gaming Scene
Initially I will admit to some excitement over the rumour that the long stagnant Commodore brand was being resurrected not just as a retro nod to times gone by, but as an elite series of gaming rigs to wow and amaze. I owned a Commordore 64 back in the day, and it remains one of my favourite pieces of gadgetry. It was my very first computer, if memory serves correctly, and it became the vector for hundreds of competitive games of Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud, not to mention King’s Quest adventures.
Commodore Gaming, the new iteration of the Commodore brand, has updated their technology and incorporated some features that are proving very successful in other walks of gaming life. The XX model, for example, has:
-
Intel® Core™2 Extreme Quad-Core processor QX6700
-
Up to 4 GB Corsair™ DOMINATOR™ PC2-8500 memory
-
2x NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GTX SLI™
-
Choose any C-kin for your Gaming PC
Still a little nervous about “gaming rigs”…and the price tags of these behemoths recalls a little bit of Alienware combined with Dell’s previous brand power. The cheapest series retails for about $1900 USD, and rises from there to over $5700 USD. If I had that much money laying around…I wouldn’t be spending it on a computer.

*sniffs* If they’d gone with AMD/Radeon I might’ve considered buying it, but I’ll just build a better one with my precious AMD/Radeon :P Minemineminemine!
