Core & Chimera To Face-Off In Region 1 Finals
The first season of the Championship Gaming Series is wrapping up with the playoff final coming down to the Chicago Chimera vs. the Carolina Core.
In semi-final action, the Chimera pulled off a tremendous comeback, recovering from a series of losses and sticking it to the nearly invincible Counter-Strike team of the New York 3D, and sealing the deal in Project Gotham Racing thanks to their star man “Ch0mpr”. They edged the 3D 25-22.
The Core didn’t have a much easier time with the San Francisco Optx, and needed a stellar performance from DOA (M) ace “Offbeat Ninja”, who blanked Optx competitor “Cheppelle” 5-0 to secure a spot in the final his team. Despite strong performances by the DOA (F) and FIFA squads, the Optx suffered a drubbing in PGR, before crumbling in the final round.
If you haven’t checked out any of the archived action over at the Championship Gaming Series’ official site, I suggest you do for several reasons. First off, the screaming general managers are hilarious and the spectacle assigned to the entire affair is mind-boggling. Second, and most importantly, once they stop prattling on with extremely useless “uh..yeah…so they’re trying to plant the bomb…uh” commentary, watching the actual gameplay is a lot of fun and the competitors are, most of the time, very impressive. I’ve decided never to come within a league of San Fran Optx “Vanessa” if she has a copy of DOA4 anywhere near her.
The Region 1 Final is set to be held today at 7pm PST down in California. Dead or Alive series creator Tomonobu Itagaki will be on hand as a special guest for the event.
