Dance MMO Audition Hits 100,000
Just when you thought Dance Dance Revolution couldn’t possibly get more annoying, Nexon America Inc. has to go and translate the phenomenon into an MMO. Their free-to-play title, Audition, has already garnered 100,000 players in North America. With features that allow gamers to spend real world cash, by way of microtransactions, to acquire hot new outfits, hair, and accessories with which to wow their dance-off opponents, it’s not surprising that the key game demographic seems to be teenage girls.
In addition to current chart topping music, Audition boasts:
-
head-to-head and team battles
-
avatar customization at the in-game cash shop
-
inter-player socialization
With my on-going So You Think You Can Dance love-on, I’m almost tempted to try the free download and see if it’s as tasteless and shallow as it sounds. As a loather of microtransactions and a steadfast stickler when it comes to forking over money for extra in-game items, let’s just say that my avatar won’t be the most popular kid on the block.
