Simply can’t get enough of your Second Life avatar? So attracted to your online self that you wish you had a physical approximation of your very own to hug and squeeze and call George? Not put off by the extraordinarily creepy nature of dolls made out of some sort of curious plaster powder? Fabjectory can hook you up!
Using computer images of your avatar, Fabjectory can create a 7 inch (base model) figurine including tattoos, signature clothing and other accoutrements. Strike a pose, don your best duds, and let your online alter ego take shape. It’s the perfect desktop conversation piece and a fine Christman mantle decoration if you dress it up like Santa.
With a simple figurine costing about $100 and more complex ones running up to $200 (bet you wish you didn’t buy those spiky KISS shoulderpads now eh?), your Second Life keepsake won’t come cheap. Perhaps a foot stool or other non-figure item would be more up your alley. Fabjectory does those too! You can have any in-world item recreated and pricing depends predictably on the scale and complexity.
Some restrictions apply so be sure to read through the FAQ and the preparation guide in order to get the best results. Me? They give me the heebie jeebies because of their wooden looking nature and even less (if it can be believed) textural and fine detailing than the game itself. The closeups actually creep me out. But overall they’re kind of neat looking, and if you’re into your Second Life that much, all the power to you.

On the one side, I feel bad that the close ups of the avatars creep you out, on the other hand, it’s Halloween and maybe it’s just the spirit of the season.
I would note that in real-life that there are going to be few times when anyone would actually be staring eye to eye with one of the avatars (unless they were one of those creepy “make out with your avatar” people).
In any case, I appreciate the feedback about how the avatars look. We are working on making the smoother, etc. however it’s a delicate balancing act as they are being made to 1/12th scale based off of the original meshes from SecondLife (which were never intended to be seen anywhere but on a computer monitor). We could make them smooth as butter, but they’d cost $500 a piece with the additional 3d work that would need to go into them.
Thanks,

Thanks for stopping by Mike! The ‘creepy’ comments were rather tongue-ib-cheek, because I think it’s fantastic that interested parties can now bring objects out of the virtual world and into their homes. Where just a few years back the thought probably seemed like something out of a Star Trek episode, companies like yours have leapt on a curious cross-section of techonology and pop. culture. I hope you run with it.
Smoother would be grand, but thanks for the price differential explanation; $500 a piece would be a hard price point to sell.
