Gamer Grandma

by Ingrid on December 1st, 2005

Barbara St. Hilaire is a 69 year-old grandmother of twelve, who spends her free time in front of her gaming console. Her gaming regime usually runs from 5pm until 3am, which means she’s got even more stamina than me!

Gamer Granny started her video game addiction at bowling alleys, where she fell victim to the undeniable allure of the arcade machines, and now, she’s a gaming role model for her grandson, Timothy: “If you saw her in a store, she’d be polite, respectful,” Timothy says. “If you put her front of a videogame, she’s going to kill whatever’s in front of her.”

That’s what we like to hear.

St. Hilaire has become so popular in the young gaming crowd, that she’s been featured on MTV. And now she reviews games for MTV.com, where she goes under her professional name of “Old Grandma Hardcore.”

Meanwhile, my grandma is in bed by 9 (unless she comes home late from a wild night out at church), and up by 6. But that’s okay. My granny still rocks, even if she does think I’m certifiably insane for moving to France for no discernible reason.

Haha, that’s me in 60 years I tell you, the day I retire, I’m LANing 24/7 til the day I peacefully fade away in front of some supergame we have then! Oh, and the oldest guy I know that plays, is 84 year old, he lives at a nursery place, and he and his buddy have been playing Diablo 2 since it came out ^^ They’re only allowed to play for 2-3 hours a day though :(

By then this blog will be called “Arthritis-Girlz” and Erin and I will be posting in BIG LETTERS so you and Matt can understand what we’re writing. ;)

Only 2-3 hours a day? That’s evil. They should move in with Gamer Grandma.

    Re: Tor.

The wheel has turned full circle…

They most probably told their kids they could only play ’something’ for a couple of hours, and now they are being told they can only play for a couple of hours! :)
