Get Lost! Ubisoft Did.
Ubisoft, rather than falling prey to the typical game-to-movie trend in the industry, has its sights set on bringing a little bit of island mayhem to the digital screen. With their prior success bringing CSI to life for game geeks and crime hounds alike, Ubisoft is hoping to be able to apply the same principles to the red hot series Lost.
Ubisoft’s Director of Licensing explains why his company has begun to look at television as a viable source of new licensed game products, saying that
Sales of games based on movies tend to peak for the three months around the film’s release, but a game based on a TV show can sell for up to six months and you’re not committed to coming out by the theatrical release.
I’m a little concerned by the assertion that it will be ready to go in 2007, as inter-media adaptations seem to suffer from too tight schedules and lacklustre products. I suppose it’s striking a balance between catching the Lost wave while it’s still rising, and taking the time to develop a high quality game. Perhaps Ubisoft will prove me wrong and accomplish both.
