Halo Goes Prequel With New Novel
Just when you thought you couldn’t possibly choke down another Halo announcement (is anyone else really tired of the rabid frenzy that surrounds every potential game screenshot from Halo 3?), it has come to pass that another Halo novel is cresting the horizon.
Due to be released in the fall of 2007, Halo: Contact Harvest, looks at the alien/human conflict from shifting perspectives, almost 30 years before the event of Halo took place. Picked to pen the anticipated book was one of Bungie’s own writers, Joseph Staten, who sat down for a quick Q&A on the Bungie site. He was understandably guarded in how much he revealed, but he did have the following to say about the book’s plot:
Well…maybe the safest way to answer is to tell what won’t be in the book. As folks familiar with the fiction know, first contact occurred in 2525 – almost 30 years before the events of Halo. At that point the Master Chief and the rest of the Spartans were in their early teens, getting prepped for a fight against other humans (the “Insurrection” in Epsilon Eridanus). So there won’t be any Spartans in the book, but…Oh, all right. I can’t resist: in addition to Avery, there will be some major Covenant characters from Halo2.
