Hip-Hop Gaming League Season 2

by Erin on January 24th, 2007

Hip Hop Gaming LeagueI should just post the link to this and leave it at that. Honestly I’m just kind of blinking at the screen, unsure of what angle to look at this from, or even if there is an angle that results in something other than head-scratching and wry laughter.

Snoop Dogg, that maven of rapping couture, had the oddly brilliant idea to combine the hobbies of many young gangstas into a celebrity showcase. Does anything fit better into societal stereotypes of violent, sex, and drugs than the merger of rap music and video games? I thought not. Snoop thought not either, and launched the Hip-Hop Gaming League (HHGL) last year. He invited celebrity buds to battle it out, while providing outlets for average, non-famous gamers to participate via forums and site accounts, as well as a public league.

Apparently this clever mix of street culture and exhibitionism was successful enough to warrant a second season, which kicked off late last week. By the sounds of things, Season 2 will offer some huge rewards to site members willing to put themselves through the torture of reading the forums (don’t do it, you have been warned) and participating in community matches. They will have an opportunity to rise to the top of the community standings for a chance to end up at the HHGL finals in Las Vegas in mid-February.

Says Snoop:
“Yo, the HHGL is slammin’ this season, with some of the baddest gamers in hip-hop and pro sports… Just play the game, ya dig?”
