I Need a Cold Shower

Oh dear goodness me. I just watched something that did more to wake me up this morning than the entire pot of coffee currently sitting in my stomach (and making me rather nauseous to be honest).
There have been a lot of bootleg images and videos coming out of the Tokyo Game Show, since everyone wants the latest of the latest about all of the new consoles and all of the new consoles’ new games. Over at Joystiq.com, they were kind enough to satisfy my curiosity about Gran Turismo 5, the latest in the series of blockbuster racing games to hit the Playstation franchise. How could you not be excited about this game after watching the absolutely stunning graphics in this video? I suggest watching the video at least twice, once to concentrate solely on the car, and another to focus on the gorgeous environmental rendering.
One thing that was immediately noticeable was the brilliant capture of the sun; filtering cheekily through the forest trees and glinting provocatively from the sides of the high-powered cars as they zoom by. It seems like such a simple thing, and yet it adds so much to the overall look of the game, amping up the realism and giving folks like me, who are unlikely to ever own an Aston Martin DB9, a chance to feel like I had driven one. Picturesque landscapes and a more effective looking 3-D style make Gran Turismo 5 high on my list of games to pick up.
