Jack Thompson’s Domain Up for Grabs

Perennial snoop and Play-Girlz tipster Jonic reveals that Jack Thompson’s offline troubles are carrying over to the online world, where his former pedestal for defaming and preaching now lays dormant and unclaimed.
According to Jonic:
I know this guy is yesterday’s news (hopefully for good), but after wanting to show his site to a friend to demonstrate its absurdity I found that www.stopkill.com wasn’t loading.
Sure enough after a quick WHOIS query I find that the domain expired on the 3rd of this month:
Domain Name: stopkill.com
Created on…………..: Tue, Dec 03, 2002
Expires on…………..: Sat, Dec 03, 2005
Record last updated on..: Mon, Dec 05, 2005It appears Jack hasn’t bothered renewing his domain name. You think he’s finally gotten the message? Does anyone fancy buying it to create a new games site? Or having it forward on to Rockstar?
…
I can’t say I’ll be losing any sleep about it, and to be honest I’d rather the site was actually working. It would be easier to keep an eye on the hateful creature. Man I’d like to stuff a hot brick or two up his nose. I saw it happen in this video game one time, now it’s all I do.
Well what do you think folks? Shall we put our pennies together, buy the domain name, and make it a shrine to violent games? Or far better yet, and this is my personal suggestion, we turn it into a site dedicated to educating parents, watch dog groups, politicians, and any one else who might have skewed perceptions about the industry. Present them with facts, with counterpoints, and show that gaming and gamers are not just about blood and gore and Columbine.

I forgot to mention, once a domain expires it doesn’t go straight into the pool of available domains. I read an article on Mike Davidson’s blog recently that details his experience of registering a domain that had expired. It can be lengthy (and expensive) process.

Worth a read if anyone is thinking about snatching it. Although don’t be surprised if other people are after it too! I’d do it myself but I have no money. However, if a site (like this one) did want to start a fund to buy it I’d gladly donate! Anyone else down with that? Maybe we should get onto some other game blogs too, this could be the start of something big if we work at it!
