Kutaragi? Nah, Katamari!
Rather than intelligently analyzing the career of Sony’s departing CEO, Ken Kutaragi, and speculating on the effect that this retirement could have on the fledging PS3 line…I’m going to post about something much more fun and pointless. Ingrid joyfully posted the news that the next Katamari game, Beautiful Katamari, would be heading to both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. She promised more info as it became available and now, it is my distinct pleasure to point you towards the first step in your new gaming fixation.
The official website has now been launched. Unfortunately, it’s all in Japanese, and my Japanese is about as fresh as the half pound of nasty ground beef I had to throw out from my fridge yesterday. The pictures are pretty though, and assuredly, as with the other Katamari titles, seizure-inducing. Apparently a Wii version of the tilt-a-whirl game, well-suited to the Wiimote’s abilities, may also be in the works, with Moriwaki singling it out as a platform choice burdened with unique challenges with regards to compatibility.
To me it looks much the same as the other games, which while entertaining, are starting to take on the tired glow of film sequels. It was an innovative and exciting surprise hit, but how long can they really expect you to amuse yourself by rolling around a psychadelic landscape? Hopefully this new offering has got some spiffy additional content and new features to avoid looking like an EA Sports title: new box, better graphics, same game.
