March Poll

by Erin on March 5th, 2007

Inspired by Ingrid’s post on how Coca-Cola seems to think that gaming, and not the excessive sugar levels found in its own soft drink products, is a “major part of the [obesity] problem”, March’s poll at Play-Girlz wants your opinion. Does being a gamer make you fat? Is it gaming alone, or a generally unhealthy lifestyle (gaming + tv + Coke + fast food) that has upped youth obesity levels? We want to know!

March’s poll is now running, and will be open to voting until the 31st of the month. Tell us what you think, and answer the question:

Are video games a major factor in the rise of obesity?

The rising obesity is caused mostly by high-fructose corn syrup, instead of cane sugar in processed foods.

There are some other factors, like higher sedentiary rate, but video games are only part of the story, and a very small part of the story at that. The lack of outside spaces, and tight focus on organized activities rather than just play, has lead to a more sedentiary lifestyle in general.
