Metal Gear Solid Film in Works
Among a lot of joking, teasing, awe-inspiring pre-rendered graphics featuring an 80 year old Solid Snake, and other Kojima Productions shenanigans, Hideo Kojima snuck a curious little article into his studio’s catalogue. Apparently talks are underway to see Solid Snake on the silver screen, following in the footsteps of such central gaming figures as Mario & Luigi, Liu Kang, and Lara Croft.
From the Studio Kojima announcement:
I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid. It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement. False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood.
The best thing about this news? Kojima reassured MGS fans that Uwe Boll, that sadist slaughterer of gaming franchises everywhere, would not be allowed anywhere near the director’s chair.
Other than that, details were very sketchy, but I’m sure the rumour mill will be more than happy to keep us all updated with casting hypotheses and other credits. What does everyone think? Is this doomed to be yet-another-crappy-game-movie, or will the creative guidance of Kojima and the banned of Boll make all the difference. Is the MGS story something that would be compelling to non-gamers (this I think is the flaw to the vast majority of game movies)?
