Microsoft Game Advisor

by Ingrid on October 31st, 2005

Microsoft is coming out with a new tool for the soon-to-be released Windows Vista entitled Microsoft Game Advisor, which will act as a gamer’s best friend. The tool is part of Microsoft’s ongoing campaign to prove that they love gamers, and gamers should love them right back. Or essentially, to lure us further into their web of corruption and sin.

And they do it so, so well.

According to Next Generation, the tool will be able to perform many nifty, gamer-friendly activities. Not only will it check your computer’s power, but it will also act as a gaming portal, allowing you to:

Learn about hundreds of games you can play on computers running Windows.

See if your computer has the hardware you need to play a game before you buy it—the Game Advisor scans your system so you don’t have to guess.

Find games that are right for you based on your age and interests—if you like a particular game, you can find games that are similar.

Read game reviews and ratings from users like you—and add your own ratings and reviews to share with others.

Download bonus game content.

Check out game demos, trailers, screenshots, and updates.

Create a profile so the Game Advisor remembers you and your system—which makes finding the right games even easier.

Read Windows gaming news.

Buy the games you like online.

Ooooh and aaaah, I say.

Let’s see if it lives up to its delicious promises.

OMG!!! This is so exciting!!! It’ll be like a total replacement for the intArw3b!!! Gah. I appreciate their interest but they really need to leave me the hell alone. I don’t need their “helpful” software tools getting in the way and mucking up what is normally a good experience. I would be so happy if they focused on making things better instead of more “friendly”. They need to sell a “happy stupid person” version of windows and then a version that’s just runs without any of the extra crap. I know..XP Home and Pro right? Whatever. I just KNOW their game advisor is gonna get in the way and break my games. It’s gonna tell me that my system won’t be able to run this game and then not let me play it at all. And that whole “Finding games that are similar based on your age and interests” thing? Anyone else see that as being an advertisement window that pops up every 5 minutes? Spyware!! Ahahah Game advisor is spyware!! lol. Okay I’m done ranting. I am slightly interested to see what Game Advisor actually does, but I have little hope of it “advising” or being “useful”

I’ve already got the tools I need. Google tells me what games are coming out, and Ingrid tells me how to see my system information!
