New Game Helps Reduce Stress Hormone Levels

McGill University designed a game whose initial purpose was to aid researchers in training people to change their perceptions in such a way that it would boost their self-confidence. Well, the same game has now been shown to reduce stress hormone levels by a decent margin: 17%.
“We already knew that it was possible to design games to allow people to practice new forms of social perception, but we were surprised by the impact this had when we took the games out of the lab and into the context of people’s stressful lives,” said McGill psychology professor Mark Baldwin.
The team, led by Professor Mark Baldwin, has been busy at work designing a slew of games that focus on positive feedback, and are based on social intelligence. Through these games, and the results shown, the team has discovered that much of our stress comes through our perceptions of the world, rather than the world itself.
The continuing research has spun into its own company, MindHabits. Thanks to funding, the company will be releasing its very first game, available through the website.
