New Lara Croft Chosen
So you’re 23 years old, from Croydon (England), and you’re a former Great Britain gymnast now working as a receptionist. The logical next career move for such an eclectic background?
Why, Lara Croft of course.
The next non-virtual “face” of everyone’s favourite video game heroine has been selected in the form of Alison Carroll. She’s a bit of a departure from prior picks, who tended to stick in the “I’m a moooodel” mold (Karima Abebibe , Nell McAndrews). Side tidbit on McAndrew: she was “removed”/ fired as from her role as Croft after posing nude for Playboy in 1999.
I think it’s a great choice personally, because she’s not just a pretty face, but she’s got the gymnast build and skill set to show off a bit and not just stand there kissing her pistols. Some of the PR shots that have come out already bear witness to the fact that the folks who selected her are looking for her to step up and step right into the image of Lara. Hot, yes, but also powerful, graceful, essentially both classically elegant and a physical presence.
Says Carroll of the opportunity:
“This is a fantastic opportunity and I am really looking forward to embracing Lara’s world. I still can’t believe they chose me to take on the role of Lara – and I can’t wait to get stuck in. This is my dream job – I have always wanted to be an action hero and hope to be able to use my gymnastic ability to perform all of Lara’s stunts. It is slightly daunting but I am really excited at the same time.”
She’s now off for a series of training gigs to whip her into shape as Lady Croft including: “SAS survival, combat and semi-automatic weapon firing courses in Eastern Europe, and a crash course in world archaeology”. Slightly more exciting than a receptionist job I would think.
