Nintendo Considers the Wii Controller Strap Might Be Faulty

by Ingrid on December 7th, 2006

Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata, acknowledged that there may be a problem with the strap on the Wii’s controller.

It seems that the Nintendo design team that came up with the strap didn’t foresee the extreme levels of excitement that people would get into while playing the Wii. The result has been quite chaotic as broken monitors, TV sets, and even PDAs have suffered at the underestimated destructive power of the Wiimote.

So what is Nintendo doing about it?

Well, they did release the Wii Safety Guide not too long ago which briefly addresses the importance of always keeping a firm hold on the Wiimote.

But other than that, they’re simply “investigating” the issue.

“Some people are getting a lot more excited than we’d expected,” Iwata said. “We need to better communicate to people how to deal with Wii as a new form of entertainment.”

The company has not decided on any specific measures to change the strap, Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa said.

On the issue of Wii-related soreness, Nintendo still maintains that players should exercise more.

And if you want to keep abreast of the latest news regarding the destructive powers of the Wii, I recommend tuning into Wii Have A Problem. Last time I checked, a DVD player had died, and so had a drinking glass. Oh and another TV.

At this point, I suspect people are just sending random pictures of broken stuff and blaming it on the Wiimote. ;)
