PlayStation HUB to Compete with Xbox Live

The thought that Sony’s PS3 might come out with an Xbox Live equivalent was once a distant hope. But now the clouds are parting: Sony is officially announcing the launch of the “PlayStation HUB” online service, which plans to rival Xbox Live.
The new PlayStation HUB will feature an online marketplace where people will frequent as well as Xbox Live style online game play and chat options. The new service will also act as an iTunes portal for offering music and movies.
Sony PSP owners will be able to tap into the marketplace and multi-media services as well.
What will the new PlayStation HUB cost? No idea, but it is unlikely that it will be free.
Sony’s official product page also suggests that when the PS3 is finally launched, most likely in November in the UK, you’ll have to buy a hard drive separately, although an Xbox 360-style ‘premium’ package including storage is possible.
Perhaps the PlayStation HUB will even surpass Xbox Live, though I highly doubt Microsoft will stand idly by and watch.
Especially since it looks like Microsoft is getting ready to bring Direct TV to the Xbox 360 Dashboard, where you can download HD TV shows right from your Xbox 360 console.
One thing’s for sure: the war of the next gen consoles is getting mighty interesting.
I’m still not sure which one I want.
