Poll Tally: Lifestyle Packs On The Pounds

Perhaps a bit of a “duh” result in response to the March poll question, but I thought it might be interesting to see what gamers themselves thought about the contribution that their favourite past time may be making to their waistline. Play-Girlz asked you, the reader/gamer:
Are video games a major factor in the rise of obesity?
Many thanks to the 41 respondents who tackled this touchy subject. Almost 30% of you nixed the idea that video games had anything to do with the rise of obesity in today’s troubled society. Apparently sitting on the computer/couch for hour upon sedentary hour poses no problems and creates no burden for the gamer’s body in your opinion.
Contrarily, 20% of you voted an outright “YES”, pointing the finger directly at video games as a major player in wider waists. I’d be curious to hear how those of you who selected this option would go about improving the situation. Games certainly aren’t just going to go away, so what can gamers, gaming companies, and society as a whole do to cut the trend towards obesity? Do you think that platforms encouraging physical activity, such as DDR or the Wii, are viable solutions?
The most popular response, garnering 51% of the votes, refused to see the issue as being so black-and-white, and felt that video games were only one factor in a much wider lifestyle issue. Unhealthy habits surrounding eating, sleeping, and exercise seem all to blame, with contributions being made across a spectrum of daily activities, including gaming.
If anyone wants to voice their opinion more fully on the subject, I invite you to do so in the comments of this post.
