Poll Tally: Wired For Film
I think it only proper to say that this is an extremely biased poll, the answering audience of which is made up of gamers, internet savvy folks, and fellow bloggers. A broader survey of the general population could very well flip the results in the exact opposite direction.
Still, it’s interesting to note that just over half (56%) of console owners who responded had ever used their console for movie viewing. The poll didn’t inquire about frequency of use mind you, and perhaps it should have. How many of those positive responses can be attributed to single uses, and how many to regular DVD watching? I expected this number to be a little bit higher to be honest, but judging from the interesting discussion going on in the comment thread, it appears that convenience isn’t the only factor affecting use.
A third of all respondents (33%) stated that they had never used their system for film purposes, though again, the reasons for this lack of use were not examined.
As expected, the number of people who were unaware that you could watch movies on a console system was low, most likely due to the demographics of the polled population. Only 12% of respondents selected “Holy crap! You can do that?”.
