PS2, PS3 and PS4 News

That, by the way, was not a typo.
As far as the PS2 goes, my little slim line baby (which fits conveniently into my purse..ahaha!) is still whipping along just fine, and games are still coming out by the bucketloads. Thus I have a startling admission to make…I’m really not that upset that I don’t have a 360. I don’t have a HD tv, nor a lot of friends who gamer to make Live! a bit incentive for my, and I can get along just fine with Slim. Rumours are persisting that there will be price drops to the Sony work horse following the pricey 360 launch to try to lure money conscious shoppers to a cheaper, Sony alternative. I don’t think it’ll have much of an effect really, given that everyone and their dog has a PS2 already, and all the cool kids will be clamouring specifically for a 360. Still, Sony’s got to try something to hang on to a corner of the Christmas profit.
The PS3, still mysterious, has more info flying around cyberspace than Jessica Simpson. A recent CNN article was packed full of surprisingly unknown revelations…surprising because Howard Stringer, the Sony CEO to which the comments were attributed, never actually said anything of the like. Still, the ideas weren’t revoluntionary. It was suggested that the PS3 would be the last of the major next gens to launch, sometime in the Fall of 2006. This late date as some worried, who feel that the fall launch, coupled with the cost to develop games and the console price could put Sony in a bit of a wobbly situation. The current estimate at the price of a PS3 puts it in about the same neighbourood as the core XBox 360 bundle. A sub $400 launch seems possible, in order to make the console an affordable Blu-Ray player to HD systems. The consensus seems to be that it will take a while for Sony to turn a profit, negatively impacting their market share and profits.
What’s this about a PS4? Well shhhhh, don’t tell anybody, but Ken Kutaragi and his team think that the PS3 is a great piece of equipment, but it hasn’t “achieved even half of what we’re going to do”. He feels that there will be a push to get the next-next-gen PlayStation out the door before the end of the decade. Ambitious fellow!
