PS3 Winning the Console War in the UK

by Ingrid on November 11th, 2005

In a recent poll conducted in the UK, a larger percentage of people claimed they intended to purchase the PlayStation 3 over the Xbox 360. Interesting, considering that the PS3 has no release date set for the UK, and the Xbox 360 will be released there on December 2nd, smack dab in the middle of prime holiday shopping time. Granted, the PS3 lead over the Xbox 360 is pretty minor (32% for the PS3 vs. 27% for the Xbox 360), so the scales may shift at any time.

The survey was conducted by XTN Data, a research consultancy firm based in the UK. The results from the survey did not reveal age or gender statistics for those who participated in the poll, which is too bad, because I like numbers.

Regarding the PS3 lead, XTN Data founder, Greg Harper stated, “This comes despite huge efforts by Microsoft to launch in time for the vital Christmas period and before Sony’s 2006 launch.”

Who knows, however, whether people will still choose to wait on the PS3 after the Xbox 360 is released. People’s impatience, curiosity, or holiday spirit, might cause them to change their minds.

As for Nintendo Revolution’s place in the console wars, the XTN Data survey didn’t bother to find out. But I’m quite certain someone else will.
