Revolution Release Rumours

Say that ten times fast.
After trying to follow the glut of dates being spewed forth for the official launch of the Nintendo Revolution, I’ve all but given up. Everyone is tossing possible months in 2006 into the mix like kids trying to help mommy make chocolate chip cookies. Two of the most credible sources I could find are summarized below.
Calling Nintendo Power and following the “if you are a monkey - Press 1″ instructions, gives you next-gen information that suggests a fall or winter release. This places the Revolution in last place as far as release dates go, but I think it could be a brilliant time for them considering their willingness to be adopted as a “second console” for serious gamers. It lets the hype of the 360 and PS3 launches die down, and puts it first in line for the 2006 holiday season.
One of Nintendo’s recent financial reports, however, lets slip that the Revolution could hit Japan as early as the Spring, moving the date in direct conflict with the PS3 launch. Given that Japan is a hardcore Sony market (and despite gains by Nintendo in comsumer opinion), I’m not sure what the benefit of such a move would be.
I would take the financial report over Nintendo Power and suggest a Spring launch in Japan and, taking a page from Microsoft, a rapid roll out of consoles to North America and Europe within a month or two of that date. The average of the two rumours would stick the launch somewhere in the summer, perhaps July-ish.
