Sega and China, Sittin’ In A Tree

Just a few days after Sega announced that it had secured the rights to publish the official 2008 Olympic Games video game, someone dug up an interesting little piece of information that shows that that’s not all the interest that Sega had in Beijing.
The publishing rights are quite extensive, covering multi-platform releases right down to downloadable content for your mobile phone. If they allow me to javelin through on my PS2, I will be a happy camper. One of the most addictive games I ever played was (I think I remember the title right) Winter Olympic Games: Lillehammer ‘94, so I’m well aware of the delicious dangers that Olympic Games games can bring.
Hot on the heels of that announcement though, was that relations between Sega and China were about to get a whole lot cozier. The gaming giant has signalled that it’s ready to move into the Asian country by opening up a new research and development centre in Beijing to work on the Olympic game and others. They’re also looking to build a “Battle Site” centre for their Jaiyou game, and a sports oriented centre called a “Player’s Arena.
Convenient, isn’t it…
