Sparter: Peer-to-Peer Virtual Goods Trading
In light of eBay’s decision to ban all selling of virtual goods from their sites, others have jumped at the chance to take over the market. Sparter (Beta), one such new service, is ready to help you trade and sell your WoW, EQ, EQII, and EVE Online goods through their 3 step, easy-as-pie, P2P process.
Their trademark is “Gamer 2 Gamer” and here’s what they say about that:
Gamer2Gamer™ describes one the most exciting and unique aspects of Sparter: currency trading between gamers. The current market for virtual currency is dominated by large companies that aggregate gold and charge significant mark-ups to gamers. Sparter allows gamers to trade with each other directly. Essentially, we connect gamers who need gold to gamers who have gold. And we give all gamers a chance to make a little money from extra currency. With Sparter, gaming pays! We call this revolutionary approach G2G™ or Gamer2Gamer™ trade.
I wonder what kind of legal trouble this company is going to get into over the incoming months. I still think eBay was wise to wash their hands of virtual good auctions. But there’s a lot of money (virtual and otherwise) out there and this is undoubtedly a very solid business model - if you can keep Sony and Blizzard off your back, that is.
