Splat Magazine’s Renegade Paintball

For those of you still planning on using your XBox following the arrival of the 360, or better yet those needing a nice shoot-em-up to take out your 360-wait anxiety, why not try something a little different? Instead of all the WW II shooters that are spawning like fruit flies in a rotten apple (I love WWII games by the way, it just seems that a new one comes out every week and tries to sound new and hip), why not try a little virtual paintball?
If you play the sport in your non-gaming time and relish dealing out circular bruises that point to your prowess, industry publication Splat Magazine now gives you the opportunity to do it onscreen. Hidden behind all the pictures of semi-naked paintball hotties (I thought I had landed myself at a soft core site for a moment), attractively named the Splat Girls, is an XBox game called Splat Magazine Renegade Paintball. While the game itself might not be particularly impressive from what I can see, it seems like a nice change and paintball enthusiasts might get a kick out of it. I’m no paintballer myself (someone please offer to take me paintballing), but Renegade Paintball’s indoor arenas remind me of this game they used to have on American Gladiators, where the contestants run from cover to cover while the Gladiators use a compressed air cannon to try and pick them off with tennis balls. I love that show.
The game, from Cat Daddy Games and Global Star, is available as of today. Players can try out a 25 single-player tournament and field ball matches along with a two player split-screen, and multiplayer capabilities on Xbox Live. You can also build your own paintball arenas using the map editor and control the setting, as well as the placement of helpful items. The PC version includes internet and LAN play.

i actually find this game weird … why would i go play a virtual game of paintball when i can just go and play the real thing?
i mean if you’re shooting someone in a game, it might as well be with a rocket launcher right? :)

Same reason that fishermen like to try out the bass fishing games, or hunters run around after virtual dear. I suppose to see how close to the real experience (visually anyway) video games can get.
