Time To Pay Up, Kids

Thanks to a new law in Minnesota, minors will now be fined $25 for purchasing Mature or Adults Only rated video games. Hope those four year olds buying Grand Theft Auto saved up for the extra cash they’ll have to fork over.
Naturally, the Entertainment Software Association is like, “This is st00pid!” and are gearing up to sue the state of Minnesota. The president of ESA says that, “SF 785 is unnecessary and will restrict the First Amendment rights of Minnesota’s citizens.”
Where the hell are the parents in all of this? And how are kids able to afford fines now? Is there a whole child labor program in Minnesota I’m not aware of?
It’s also a little sad that the fine is barely half the price of what the video game probably costs. I don’t think $25 is going to deter anyone.

It’s better kids are fined for playing games they shouldn’t, than banning all violent video games for us adults as well.

Doesn’t the law state that it is the seller who cannot sell to the incorrect age group? Those are the people who should be fined, not the kids for buying the game.
Why are the politicians trying to get us to live in a nanny state - what, people can’t think for themselves and have to have their daily life legislated?
Next on the list - house raids to see if you have DVD movies in your posession you are too young to be watching.
Gah.

I’m with Cal on this one. It’s like arresting the crackheads and not going after the crack dealers.
You clean up some of the mess, but you aren’t getting to the root of the problem.
