Trailer Day

Prince of Persia The Two Thrones

I watch movie trailers religiously, in fact I won’t sit comfortably through a film if I’ve missed previews. I just love that glimpse of what is to come. I realized there was no reason I couldn’t apply my snippet love to games, what with the game trailer an all but required element of a successful launch. So, in a spot that I hope will become a regular one, here are my thoughts on three game trailers.

Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones: Due out in December 2005, Ubisoft’s latest in the Prince of Persia series boasts a rather impressive looking trailer. Tainted by the Sands of Time, the Prince returns home to Babylon to discover his kingdom in turmoil. As he fights to restore justice and order, he can apparently transform into the Dark Prince, whom you have the chance to play as well. The intro graphics look brilliant, and as a fan of this series I’d be willing to give it a whirl on those alone, but it was the addition in-game segments that really make me think that this one will be a winner. It looks like it maintains the puzzles-to-killing balance present in other PoP games, while blending smooth player movement and a fully explorable Babylon from roofs, streets and sewers.

The Warriors: Yeah you got it, yet another gangsta game. And this one let’s you beat people up with a partner on some of the most awkward looking split-screen action I’ve ever seen. I think, and let’s hope my ears deceived me, that I heard “You want a piece of me??” shouted in a suitably tough gravelly voice while someone got their head kicked in on the pavement. Worse still? I think it’s set in the 70’s. Good gracious. Senseless senseless violence that doesn’t interest me in the least. Not surprisingly this title is from Rockstar. Unfortunately due out this month.

GUN: Yeeeee-haw pardners! This 360 launch game looks downright delicious. Both off-game and in-game footage makes it look as though the next-gen XBox knows what it’s doing in the graphics department. Fight off the evil railroad tycoons, gallop around on your manly stallion, and shoot lots of things. Neversoft has taken a refreshing look at shooters, and made the wild wild west come alive.

1 opinion for Trailer Day

I hope PoP 3 is good. I was horribly disappointed by the second game and never even got very far. It’s hard to believe that Prince of Persia 1 got a ton of game of the year awards and the sequel kinda got ignored and made fun of.
