Walk of Game Winners Announced

by Erin on November 18th, 2005

Walk of Game

Well the polls closed and the votes were tallied and this year’s inductees to the Walk of Game have been announced. Turns out my personal picks didn’t reflect those of the rest of the voting public (what else is new).

Sid Meier grabbed the lifetime achievement award for his work on Pirates, Civilization, and Railroad Tycoon, as well as a long career in the industry as the “Father of PC Gaming”. John Carmack, programming guru behind Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, grabbed the other one. I had picked Toru Iwatani (Pac-Man!) to win.

Game-wise I really really wanted to see Pong in there, and my second pick for that category was Quake. Once again I batted a big fat zero, as Starcraft and Final Fantasy got the nod. Can’t say I disagree with the selections mind you, it was just a very strong field of nominees. I somehow missed the MMORPG award when I was making my choices, but am not surprised to see that Ever Quest snagged top spot.

The only award I managed to pick correctly was Lara Croft as the character inductee. She’s a personal favourite of mine (I really do love the games) and knowing her rabidly obsessive fans, she was a pretty easy choice.

Count me 1/6.
