Women Gamers: Cooking Mama

by Ingrid on December 1st, 2006

Cooking Mama is a Nintendo DS game that teaches you how to cook! Well, it teaches you how to cook Japanese. Mmmmm. I want sushi now.

I fail at cooking, so maybe I should pick this one up.

You are given real recipes and they can actually be made after you are done playing the game. I recommend this game for everyone that wants to improve their cooking skills. It is not just a game for little girls. A cook or gamer at any level can enjoy this charming game.

You play as a chef’s apprentice. You need to learn the skill sets for preparation. Then you are able to test those skills and make the dish. The game not only teaches you valuable kitchen skills but it is fun, thoroughly addictive and tasty!

Women Gamers’ Geek Woman reviews this seemingly charming little game breaking it down to: Impressions, Graphics (not mindblowing), Gameplay, Enjoyment (fun!), and rounds it up with the marketing efforts its made toward attracting women.

This is very obviously a game that was designed for little girls. It is a fine ‘marketing to women’ accomplishment, with no trace of sexism.. It is something that both girls and ladies will enjoy. There is no avatar so there is no character to select. It is for women, while being inclusive enough to be fun for everyone.

I think I’d still prefer to watch the Food Network, though. I miss the Iron Chef (the original NOT I.C. America for that one sucks). Alas … no Food Network for me in the sad, sad world of la France. I’m going to go drown my sorrows in croissants.
