WoW Funeral for Chinese Girl

by Ingrid on November 4th, 2005

Players in World of Warcraft held an online funeral for a young girl who died while playing the game during the national day holiday in China. The girl, who played under the character name of “Snowly” died last month, marking the second World of Warcraft-related death so far. Chinese officials have since started a move to place a limit on the allowable time spent in-game, something that is certainly not going to go down without a fight.

Should regulations be put in place for gaming? Well, there should certainly be something.

In the meantime, China View reports that there are 7 major developers who’ve begun testing anti-obsession systems on eleven online games. The trial period began October 20th.

That is very sad, and at the same time, completely surreal.

I think it’s sweet… We do stuff like that on the RP server all the time… except of course there the characters die, not the RL people… :(

Well, all I can say is that if you are going to announce it, then at least have the funeral in non constested territory such as the barrens or something of the sort that you have plenty of room to do it and can still have both factions there…. think next time…

Was the death caused by too much play? Or was there more to it, such as medical conditions / not eating / not sleeping? Just seems strange…

Its really sad tht some1 dies for obsession of a game and its also sad tht no1 stops another person from doing a maratone of gaming. WoW is a really gd game but its not worth to die playing it.
I myself think its not worth to pay for it (i pay pirate wow)
Kiesh, lemme explain u how she died:
“Snowly” has 3 free days on a national hollyday, so she decides to make a wow marathone, she wakes up at first hour of the day and starts her maratone of WoW, 3 days later she dies of exaustion.
(thts what was written on the 2007 Guiness)
